Edible Marijuana Tweets
A recent paper published in the American Journal of Health Promotion reported a content analysis of edible marijuana tweets on Twitter. A random sample of 5000 tweets containing edibles-related key words was analyzed.
Three out of four tweets related to marijuana edibles normalized or encouraged edibles use. Specifically, tweets emphasized edibles intense or long-lasting effects. Most tweets were from youth ages 17-24 years.
These results suggest that social media like Twitter could increase marijuana popularity and use, particularly among young people.
This study’s findings highlight the need for evidence-informed marijuana education and prevention, including the use of social media.
