Early Cannabis Use and Educational Outcomes
A study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology examined the possibility of a causal relationship between early marijuana use and later academic achievement.
The authors concluded that early cannabis use can cause low educational attainment.
Increasing legalization of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes in the US, Canada and elsewhere in the world should be met with proactive, significant increases in educational efforts aimed at youth, parents, educators, medical specialists and businesses to combat the continuing growth of marijuana myths, beliefs about harmlessness, and social norms that drive increased use and exposure to marijuana products especially among children, youth and young adults.
