According to SAMHSA, “Physical and mental health are deeply connected.” (https://mailchi.mp/e0bcf7a4ce7f/bridging-the-gap-between-physical-and-mental-health-mental-health-awareness-month-continues?e=4ecacc7285).
That is why during Mental Health Awareness Month SAMHSA is promoting the connection between physical and mental health, and providing resources that promote integrated, whole-person care.
That’s exactly what we do at Prevention Plus Wellness (PPW)!
PPW is all about providing integrated, whole-health programs and training for substance abuse and mental health providers to help youth and young adults protect and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
We do this by targeting the avoidance and reduction of substance use/misuse, but at the same time promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors including regular physical activity and sports, healthy breakfast and food consumption, sleep, and stress control practices.
By integrating the prevention of substance use/misuse with the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits is how physical and mental health are brought together, and we can all promote the whole-health of young people across America.
