The proportion of U.S. children and adolescents with anxiety and depression increased between 2016 and 2022, according to a recent Northwestern Medicine survey analysis published in JAMA Pediatrics.
We believe these data indicate that American youth need programs and policy that not only prevent substance use/misuse which can cause mental health problems but also promote healthy lifestyle behaviors like regular physical activity, sleep and healthy nutrition which can strengthen mental wellbeing.
