The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Survey on Drug Use and Health found almost one-third of U.S. teens received mental health treatment in 2023.
This alarming statistic underscores the need for prevention specialists to not only address substance use but also promote healthy lifestyle behaviors associated with improved mental health.
These behaviors include regular physical activity, healthy breakfast and food consumption, adequate sleep, and stress control, which are lacking in three out of four US adolescents.
