Putting Prevention into Practice

Putting Prevention into Practice

We are tremendously fortunate to have partnered with Barry Schmidt and his outstanding colleagues at the Bay County Prevention Network in the Neighborhood Resource Center.

Their mission is to engage, advocate, inform and increase awareness for behavioral health issues through education, prevention and recovery.

The Bay County Prevention Network (BCPN) is an alliance of representatives from different sectors, organizations, and constituencies with a common purpose of reducing substance abuse among the youth and adults of Bay County, Michigan.

The coalition works at changing the programs, policies, and practices of sectors within the community that contribute to the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and all other illicit drugs.

The BCPN, originally formed as the Bay County Substance Abuse Coalition in 1989, was a response to community concerns about the issues and problems associated with the abuse of substances.

Over the years, BCPN has provided evidence-based programs such as the SPORT Prevention Plus Wellness screening and brief intervention which is proven to prevent substance use while promoting fitness, healthy nutrition and positive identities of youth.

Barry, along with everyone at the Bay County Prevention Network, are exceptionally skilled and committed individuals working tirelessly to ensure a healthy, safe and drug-free community.

We are very fortunate to work with this incredibly important network of people and organizations to protect and promote the health and well-being of youth and young adults throughout their region.
