School Children Provided SPORT PPW Report Improved Health Habits

School Children Provided SPORT PPW Report Improved Health Habits

Our prevention partners in Arkansas have done it again!

This time they’ve provided the SPORT Prevention Plus Wellness program to yet another elementary school in Prevention Region #5.

Prevention leaders Tabitha Fondren and Katelynn Priest implemented the SPORT PPW program to 3rd and 4th grade students at a local Arkansas public elementary school.

Using screening and feedback surveys which are included with the evidence-based SPORT Prevention Plus Wellness program, program fidelity and effectiveness was assessed during program implementation eliminating the need to follow up with youth at a later date.

Results indicated that on average elementary school children participating in the single-session SPORT Prevention Plus Wellness Program:

  1. Liked the program, thought it would help other kids be healthy, and believed it would help them stay away from trying alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.
  2. Were not willing to drink any alcohol, smoke a cigarette, and try any drugs when they were adults.
  3. Increased their willingness to eat a healthy breakfast most mornings, set health or fitness goals, and talk with their parents about health or fitness in the next month.
